Missing You.
Wow, I miss this place, I miss our coffee and chats, how did it get so far away? I've been rereading some of my previous blog posts, because I am compiling work to get a few greeting cards ready to sell. As I'm going through all of my posts, and seeing comments and interactions, it hit me like a ton of bricks just how much I miss this tiny safe space we created together online.
All I can say is I'm sorry I stepped away for awhile, I'm sorry I haven't been creating, I'm sorry I forgot how special our space was... I can't say I'll be back every day, but I can say I will make a big effort to be back, more often. Because honestly, I miss you.
It's so weird, I don't know how you can miss people, you've never met, but I miss you.
So this is me cheering you with a BIG cup of coffee, putting my big girl pants on, and getting my stuff in order... I will prioritize us again, YOU and ME... we will make beautiful things together. We will create a safe space to vent, be creative, get encouraged, sit with our heartbrokeness, and a place for hearts to mend again... we will be us, and just us, is ok.

Going Back.
Can you actually go back? To a time and place where all seemed well in the world... I don't think so, I think things change. I believe we constantly look back at memories and times gone by, through rose coloured glasses. We choose to forget all of the issues happening at that time and remember only the good things. I don't think that is a bad thing, I just think, being a very nostalgic person, that it can be dangerous for me.
So today, I'm lonesome for Vietnam and our life there, it seemed simple... but instead of wishing I were there, or longing for those days, I brewed myself a little Vietnamese coffee and I'm enjoying one of the things I loved most while inVietnam- right here and now in my pjs, on our couch, in our new place.
I drink the same brand of coffee now, as I did in Vietnam. I used to pack Kicking Horse Coffee 454 Horsepower by the kilo, so technically it's exactly the same thing- but I brewed it differently there.
Here in Canada, I throw it in my coffee maker and let it go, a pout of 6 cups, bubbling away in 5 minutes all 6 cups are ready, and I am ready for it. But there... it was time consuming, brewed one cup at a time, lots of waiting... but oh my goodness it never disappointed. Today I am enjoying the perfect cup of coffee...Brewed like in our Vietnam home.
So do I think we can go back? no... I think the past is only perfect in our minds. But do I believe we can enjoy the past, think about it, relive happy memories? YES! I am so totally nostalgic for things gone by that when I catch myself longing... I have to remind myself, that here and now is the place to be... the past was awesome, but also gone... the future is bright and beautiful, but this moment, right here, sipping my coffee, is the place to be. So be right here.

Just Brew You.
Last week I broke the glass in my french press. Not Fun, in anyway shape or form. I have become a coffee snob- it's a little ridiculous. I take my own brewing mechanism, as well as my own coffee, freshly ground and ready to go, with me when we travel. I tell people it's because I don't want to wake them up rooting around for coffee, plus I'm a little bit of a morning bird.
I like to wake up when the house is quiet, I need (lots) alone time, and I carve that into my mornings, but that is only part of it. I know I can always find a pot to boil water in, if there is no kettle around... and perhaps the real reason- I just love great coffee and what other people think is great coffee versus what I think is great coffee are two sometimes very different things. (I'm told the older I get the less I will care about these things, I am sure that is true, but for now, please don't be offended when I break out my french press and my coffee when you offer me a Keurig cup- sorry Mom- yup, I'll be bringing my gear!)
I'm that person. That weirdo. I've taken my favourite coffee all over the world, I've taken selfies with my favourite coffee all over the world. I've purchased French presses in China and Uganda... broke them both. So I finally bit the bullet and bought a stainless steel french press that makes me so happy, and will travel well!
Are you a weirdo coffee brewer like me? do you have your quirks?
No matter how you brew it, just brew you. Do it the way you like it, of course I rarely turn down coffee of any kind, I'm always on the hunt for that perfect cup that someone else has brewed...

I wonder...
I wonder if coffee thinks about me too... I mean, what if it's addicted to me? not the other way around. I went to bed last night dreaming of my morning cup of coffee... it makes my heart so happy to take time in the morning to brew a little cup of coffee. Ok, who am I kidding, a GIANT cup of coffee. But I do brew them one at a time, and nope not a Keurig... I'm a french press kinda girl, but here in Vietnam we have these little metal filters, it's basically the same idea as a french cup, it's a slow pour over... it takes FOREVER to filter, but it is totally worth the wait.
Don't get me wrong, if you come to Vietnam and order a Vietnamese black coffee it will knock your socks off, be as thick as mud, and taste like no other coffee in the world. Trust me. Here they brew robusta coffee- Robusta is often used as a coffee filler in canned coffee, it has less of a glorious flavour, but still tastes, looks, smells, like coffee. Generally most coffees that we think about would be made either with a mix of robusta and arabica or be 100% arabica... Not sure how I got into this little coffee definition moment, but there you go, now you know :) Great coffee conversation if you're ever in an awkward silence at a dinner party, or work thing.
With so many things in life changing... every day something new is on the horizon, what's next, where will we be in 1 year, who will we be in 1 year... I don't really know, what I do know is that God has a plan, that His plan is better than my plan, and that I can Trust Him. Even though everything is up in the air, one thing I know for sure, is that tomorrow morning, I will be brewing Kicking Horse 454 Horsepower Coffee... and I'm already thinking about it. See I wonder... does coffee think about me too?
In a world of constant change, what do you rely on for strength? Comfort? Peace? What takes your heart rate down, slows the day, allows you to be present... in the moment?

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice!
I cannot believe life has being flying by so quickly, I love that it's fall and things are starting to change... for most of you... as for me... well Ho Chi Minh City is still nice and hot and humid. I know that makes people jealous sometimes, and I'm sorry... but in my heart of hearts I'd give anything for my four seasons back. I miss the change, I miss the excitement in the air when fall is coming, the first snow flake, the smell of fresh mud in the spring and of course, when summer arrives... and then it all starts again.
So today I'm dreaming of falling leaves crunching under foot, a cold nose and chilly toes, tingly fingers which can all be warmed up with a nice cup of coffee, or tea, or something warm.
Don't tell my hubby, but I like to keep the air-conditioning just cool enough to warrant a cup of something warm this time of year! In celebration of fall... it's Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice Season! Enjoy!

One Sip at a Time.
A lot is happening on our side of the world and nothing is happening on our side of the world. Maybe that is why I don't seem to be able to put any of it into words.
Our adventures continue, and life is normal, and I am creating, making patterns, taking classes, learning Vietnamese and all that jazz... and above and beyond all of that I have found myself blessed with a group of women friends here that I do not think I would have survived the past year without...
So I will just leave this here for you all to enjoy, because I know this to be true: Friendship grows, one sip at a time...

Coffee or Tea?
Coffee or tea?

... our lives are made up of so many decisions, coffee or tea is probably one of the simplest... most days, and probably has the least impact on our lives, and the most impact on our day- or mine at least.
We're in the middle of a big decision, a fun decisions, a life altering decision... and as exciting as it is, today I wish my only decision to make was; coffee or tea?

Sun's Up, MUGS UP!
And the first order of business today is coffee... isn't it always? We've got company visiting for the first time here in Vietnam, and it is awesome, so much do to, so much I haven't done- and someone to do it with. But as always, first order of business is a big mug full of Kicking Horse Coffee... Thank goodness for family and friends who understand just how much I love the stuff- and for sending it to me, despite the cost - not sure I can every say thank you enough, so this one's for you...

It's one of those days!
It's one of those days where all I can do is just whisper a prayer, Lord, fill my cup... I'm a little homesick, I'm a little bored, I'm sure if I stopped and thought about it there would be a million things I could do... I've taken a class, I've painted a little, I've chatted with my mom, and friends... but I just can't seem to get with it today.
I need to go to the grocery store, funny thing is, at home going to the grocery store is easy, here it is an ordeal that can take me sometimes 2 hours to get 4 items... it's a hoot on days when I can handle it, on days like today it is completely overwhelming and draining.
So if you are anything like me today, than this one is for you... Fill my cup Lord... I can't do it alone, I don't want to do it alone... I need you. Period.

The Only One...
The only one for me is you, and you for me, so happy together!
I've finally figured out how to make me a delicious cup of coffee over here in Vietnam, and this is an homage to the fact that I *might* have a love affair with coffee.
I do love the ritual of making a cup of coffee, I love the smell of it, I love holding the warm mug, I love that first sip... everything about coffee means that my day is starting, that it will be a good day. I take my coffee with a side of reflection, quietness and peace... it's the quiet moments before the day begins.
I think I appreciate my coffee so much because of the moments it represents. It's a conversation over a cup of coffee with friends, it's part of most of the memories I have with my friends.
It's what I'm holding when I hear "I've got something to tell you, I'm pregnant..."
It's what I'm holding when the Hubby and I are reflecting on our life plans.
It's what I'm holding when I'm talking to my momma on the phone.
It's what I'm holding while pouring over my Bible.
It's what's brewing when my friends are on their way over...
It's part of my every day life, and I love that part...
What is the thing that is part of your everyday life, the thing that you may not even notice- until it's gone...

Coffee.
I've got a little secret for you...
Coffee is my best friend, and croissants are a close second.
We've been in Vietnam now for just about 3 weeks, Vietnam is one of the worlds largest producers of coffee and I would admit, a ca phe sua da is absolutely delicious, but finding a simple black cup of coffee is proving to be difficult. Even more difficult than that, because if you know me, you know I don't leave the country without a kilo of my favourite kicking horse 454 horsepower coffee in tow, is finding a grinder. I've got coffee, I just can't find a grinder, nor a french press... But fear not, I am on the hunt.
But what I did find was a Starbucks, I know, I know some people would argue Starbucks coffee is not great coffee, and I'd be one of you whilst standing in my kitchen grinding my own beans, brewing a big pot of my favourite 454 horsepower in a french press, then sipping it out of my favourite mug- but here, far away from home, far from my grinder, far from my simple comforts (that I perhaps took for granted) Starbucks was an oasis in a the coffee desert for me.
So I picked up a pound of dark roast, and made myself a cup of coffee, (albeit in a Vietnamese metal coffee filter)- but I had a the first cup i've enjoyed at home since we've been here.
And what I realized is that, I love coffee a lot, and the simple things in life bring great pleasure and satisfaction, so don't take them for granted. Instead be grateful for all of the little things we do every single day that make us feel happy... Life is made of of simple little pleasures, take time to notice them!

TGI COFFEE TIME!
It's Friday, TGIF or rather in my books TGI COFFEE TIME!
I wanted to share with you all that tomorrow we will be topping up our donation for the diesel generator and pump, I can't wait to put that thermometer over there up to $2000- how generous you have all been- I'm so excited!
It's officially 37 days before we leave, I have a pharmacy run to do to pick up our malaria pills (who knew they cost approximately $5 a pill and both Duy and I need 44 pills each (oy!), after that, all of the big stuff is done. Just breathe, pack, get our hearts ready, and be open to any possibiities that come our way. We are getting very excited. Even, the 'even keeled' Mister is getting excited, and that makes me even more excited, and I'm already pretty excited.
What we need from you is :
1. Pray for us

3. Pray for the children and the staff we will be going to work with

PS. I can't do anything other than simple today, my brain is buzzing, we finished our 2 big fundraisers for our Living Life ON Purpose 2015 Uganda journey, now it's all about tying up loose ends and breathing + believing that everything is going to work out. We are still raising funds up until the day we leave- your generosity and love has been amazing and we appreciate it so much.
You see that thermometer over there- the one that says $1412.00 RAISED? well I just wanted to give you an update on that- soon it will be hitting our $2000 mark as our very generous brother in law and His family have decided to TOP it up to reach out $2000 GOAL to purchase the Diesel Generator + Pump. WE ARE SO EXCITED!! This gift is what YOU guys will be sending to Uganda with us. WE are so happy that we could be the conduit for you to give such an amazing gift!
